2020 Luke Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Loren Sonkin, intowine.com, September 2023

“This is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 2% Petite Verdot from Washington state. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, char and slight dark chocolate. Full bodied. Silky tannins. On the palate, black cherries, cassis, slight chocolate and a bit of spice. Some minty and bitter cherry notes on the finish. There is some depth here and it may improve a bit with short term cellaring. It is nice on its own, but seemed better with food. Of course, a burger would do, but it worked great with Felafel. Drink over the next five to eight years.”

2021 Donnafugata Lighea

Monica Larner, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, May 2023

“Made with Zibibbo (otherwise known as Muscat of Alexandria), the unoaked 2021 Sicilia Lighea shows musky floral aromas that are perfumed and fresh. They can best be categorized under the headings of honey, sage and sweet peach. This is a lovely white wine to enjoy by the glass right before a summer beach dinner. This is a big production of 187,000 bottles.”

It has moderate ripeness and alcohol (12.5%), keeping good freshness and mellow acidity and coming through as soft and tender. Michael Schaefer, Beverage Dynamics, September 2023

“The nose is dominated by tropical fruit, with hints of grass. In the mouth, it showcases the typical aspects of bright citrus and stone fruits, with amazing focus and balance. Its great acidity makes it a wonderful paring with a wide variety of foods.”
