“The 2019 Tancredi Dolce & Gabbana is dark and intense, with an air of smoky crushed rocks and savory herbs that gives way to black currant and balsamic spice. Silky yet racy in style, this impresses further with depths of mineral-tinged red and black fruits that saturate. A web of fine-grained tannins mounts toward the close. It finishes dramatically long, structured and potent, with graphite nuances and a mentholated herbal freshness that helps to lift the experience. The Tancredi is going to need time, and a lot of it, yet it will be time well spent. It's a radiant beauty. This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d’Avola and Tannat.”

“The Piper-Heidsieck’s NV Extra-Brut Essentiel is a blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 36% Pinot Meunier and 19% Chardonnay (including 23% of reserve wines) and was disgorged in 2022 with a dosage of six grams per liter. It reveals aromas of orchard fruit, pear, peach, lemon oil and warm biscuits. The palate is medium to full-bodied, tense and pure, with a delicate mousse and a fresh, harmonious texture with a clean and precise finish. It's a well-crafted and classic Champagne. Quite rich and full-bodied on the finish and clearly a very ambitious wine, but could do with a little more of Sangiovese’s bite. That may come with more age.”

“Supple and smooth, the 2020 Cepparello brings Sangiovese to soaring heights in a manner only Paolo De Marchi can manage. This is his second to last vintage before he would retire and sell this historic estate. The wine opens to medium to full-bodied concentration with dark plum and redcurrant. Those cede to sweet spice, earth, crushed stone, rusty nail and candied orange peel. Give the wine more time to flesh out with cellar age. It registers a powerful 15% alcohol content.”
