2018 Colomé Estate Malbec

Vinous, October 2020

“A Calchaquí Malbec made from grapes from four vineyards owned by the winery, aged for 15 months in French barrels, 25% of them new. Dark purple in color. The nose delivers notes of plum and mountain herbs plus blackberry and hints of spice. Intense and concentrated, the palate has unusual power, featuring polished, active tannins that lend a rugged texture. Finishes with a whiff of wood and fruit. A red that exemplifies a segment of the Argentine market.”

2017 Colomé 1831 Malbec

Vinous, October 2020

“Made with grapes from pre-phylloxera parral vines between 100 and 150 years old at 2,300 meters above sea level, this Malbec is an intense blackberry color in the glass. The nose presents ripe fruit, a hint of flesh and clear woody notes (from the 18 months spent in barrels); grape syrup is the dominant aroma. Fleshy on the palate, with mild tannins, it makes an indulgent, rich entrance, and at 15.5% alcohol it’s almost a port, with a well-defined high-altitude character.”

2017 Colomé Estate Malbec

Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, July 2020

“Toasty black fruit aromas are herbal but also lively. A lush and saturated palate is a true mouth filler, while this Malbec pumps out blackberry and crème de cassis flavors prior to a heady finish that comes up short on complexity and nuance. This is entirely about fruit, fruit and more fruit.”

2018 Colomé Auténtico Malbec

Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, July 2020

“A deeply saturated black-meets-purple color and cool aromas of herbal blackberry, cola and minerals open this lush Malbec from Salta. A sappy palate is dense and full bodied, while this tastes of wild berry, cassis and balsamic reduction. A thick and sappy finish is fitting even though this sees no oak.”

2019 Colomé Auténtico Malbec

James Suckling, James Suckling, April 2020

“This is a big, concentrated, blackstrap and purple-colored sort of wine. Full-bodied and chewy. This is a little overdone, but it shows lots of character and intensity. Give it two or three years to soften and show more complexity. Better after 2022.”

2018 Colomé Auténtico Malbec

Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, December 2019

“Offers a fine-grained texture, with precise red fruit and spice flavors that are well-structured and pure-tasting. The minerally finish features some peppery notes and plenty of verve. Drink now through 2025. 7,500 cases made, 3,000 cases imported.”

2017 Colomé Estate Malbec

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, June 2019

“Bright, dark medium ruby. Lively aromas and flavors of crushed blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and mocha. Densely packed, fine-grained and savory, with its ripe, creamy flavors complicated by a wild gamey quality. As rich, concentrated and deep as this wine is, it's not over the top. This outstanding Malbec finishes ripely tannic and long, with compelling sweetness of fruit. (14.9% alcohol; this wine represents a blend of vineyards and altitudes in Calchaqui Valley; aged for 15 months in a mix of one- to ten-year-old French barriques)”

2020 Colomé Estate Torrontés

Vinous, October 2020

“A Torrontés from Cafayate where harvest time is key. Neither under- nor overripe, it presents aromas of orange blossom, lime and tuberose, and offers sparky freshness in the mouth, good volume for the variety, real intensity of flavor and a slightly bitter finish, as one would expect from a terpenic grape.”
