2009 Condado de Haza Alenza Gran Reserva

Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, October 2021

“This red has an enticing character, with dried floral, cherry and cedar notes accented with dried orange peel, herb and spice elements. The plush tannins give this good structure, with tea, tobacco and mineral details adding to the finish. Drink now through 2029. 50 cases imported.”

2016 Vall Llach Vi de Finca Mas de la Rosa

James Suckling, James Suckling, August 2018

“In spite of the very ripe black-fruit notes and some smoky oak, this remains fairly cool and discreet on the nose. Likewise, on the palate it is intense, but rather polished and not massive, in spite of the abundant soft tannins. Once again, with less oak it would be more enticing. Drink now or hold.”

2019 Idus de Vall Llach

Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, January 2022

“A sleek, fresh red, with savory hints of grilled meat, smoke and herbs wafting through crème de cassis and raspberry ganache flavors. Trimmed by taut tannins, this shows good focus through the juicy, fruit- and espresso-laced finish. Grenache and Cariñena. Drink now through 2027. 180 cases imported.”

2017 Embruix de Vall Llach

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, December 2020

“The youngest vines contribute to the 2017 Embruix, a blend of 27% Garnacha, 26% Merlot, 21% Syrah, 18% Cariñena and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon that is ripe and juicy but has a lot less oak than in the past. It's still heady and voluptuous at 15.5% alcohol, but it somehow comes through as quite harmonious and balanced. It matured in third and fourth use 300-liter oak barrels for 12 to 14 months. 70,000 bottles produced. It was bottled between April and May 2019.”

2016 Aigua de Llum de Vall Llach

Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, February 2019

“Aromatically speaking, this Viognier smells less floral and soapy than many, with minerally notes of crushed vitamin taking the lead. A fleshy palate with white-fruit tannins shows some grip, while this tastes bready and melony. A smooth finish, with lees notes concludes this round-bodied, high-quality Priorat white.”

2016 Condado de Haza Crianza

Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, September 2019

“Ripe cherry and red plum flavors mingle with leafy, loamy earth and vanilla notes in this harmonious red. The dense texture is supported by well-integrated tannins and citrusy acidity keeps this lively. Drink now through 2028. 29,000 cases made, 400 cases imported. — TM”

2019 Condado de Haza Crianza

Joshua Greene, Wine & Spirits, June 2022

“Dried flower scents of violets and rose petals rise off this wine’s meaty, dark tannins, which feel substantial but not aggressive. The tannins are mouth-drying, needing something to tame them and fill them out, like a fatty roast duck with berry compote.”

2008 Tinto Pesquera Millenium Reserva

Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, August 2019

“This aged Reserva from one of Ribera's seminal names is reflective of the vintage, which was cold, rainy and difficult. This smells of mulchy blackberry, coffee and wood smoke. The palate feels clipped and impermeable, while barely ripe flavors of blackened berry fruits are aided by chocolaty oak and tea notes. While this is full in body and dark in flavors, a lot is missing for something of this price.”

2019 Luke Columbia Valley Syrah

Wine Enthusiast, March 2022

Editor's Choice. Fruit for this wine comes principally from Stone Tree, Clifton Hill and Frenchman Hill vineyards. The aromas are fairly quiet, showing a sleek mix of pomegranate, grilled herb, smoke and bacon fat. The palate brings creamy flavors of smoked ham and olive—an intriguing mix. There's a lot of richness to be had, along with silky soft flavors.”

2017 Puech-Haut La Closerie

Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, May 2019

“The 2017 Pic Saint Loup Chateau Lavabre La Closerie dials up the oak component, adding cedar and baking spices to a blend of cracked pepper and ripe blueberries. Full-bodied and supple, almost creamy in texture, this is long and plush, while retaining a welcome sense of freshness.”

2020 M. Chapoutier La Combe Pilate Viognier

Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, January 2022

“From decomposed granite soils near Michel Chapoutier's private residence, the 2020 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes La Combe Pilate Viognier boasts lovely florals and beguiling apricot notes. Vinified and matured in used demi-muids, it's a wonderful expression of Viognier that won't break the bank. Medium to full-bodied, this vintage looks to be one of the best yet, featuring ample concentration and length. Drink Date: 2022-2024.”

2020 M. Chapoutier Les Meysonniers Blanc

Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, January 2022

“Pear, melon, citrus and hints of white paste appear on the nose of the 2020 Crozes Hermitage Blanc Les Meysonniers. It's medium to full-bodied, clean, zesty and fresh, yet perhaps could use a bit more breadth and richness. My recollection is that the 2018 and 2019 were bigger, richer, more pleasure-giving wines at this stage of their evolution. Drink it over the next few years.”
