Accolades

Family label Capafons-Ossó is noted by aficionados and Spanish wine connoisseurs alike for its incredible wines.

  • Melissa Clark writes about a recent trip to Spain and a visit to Capafons-Osso winery in the The New York Times article, A Good Appetite - Importing a Spanish Spring, May 21, 2008 issue:
-- "Recently at a lunch at the Capafons-Ossó winery in the Priorat region of Spain, I sat with wine experts sipping grenache-and-carignan-based blends.

Tasting descriptors dominated the conversation — clove and raspberry, vanilla and coffee, my companions suggested..."

  • Roasted tomato, hazelnuts and garlic, I thought. Everyone else was talking wine. I was thinking lunch, specifically the gloriously thick, ruddy colored
romesco sauce that, together with the grilled spring onions called calçots, was the centerpiece of the meal.

  • Wine Advocate reviews Vall Llach in the 2008 Spain Report:
    - 2003 Capafons-Osso Mas de Masos (90 pts)
The 2003 Mas de Masos is sourced from the estate’s 60-year-old vineyard of the same name. The wine is composed of 35% Garnacha Peluda, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Garnacha Pais, 10% Carinena, and 5% Syrah aged for 14 months in predominantly French oak. Dark garnet in color, it has a bouquet of cedar, slate, spice box, herbs, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate the wine is quite structured and austere although it appears to be in balance. The wine’s tannic structure persists into the finish. It will need at least 6-8 years of cellaring and will likely always be a more intellectual style of Priorat. It should last through 2025.
    -
2004 Capafons-Osso Sirsell (90 pts) The 2004 Sirsell is a blend of 25% Garnacha, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Carinena, and 10% Syrah and aged for 12 months in seasoned French and American oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has an attractive perfume of cedar, red and black currants, black cherry, spice box, and mineral. In a relatively lean style for Priorat, this medium to full-bodied wine has some elegance as well as good depth and length with enough structure to evolve for another 2-3 years. Drink it through 2020.

  • Capafons-Osso named "Spain, Winery of the Year, Priorat" in the Wine & Spirits "Top 100 Wineries" issue (October 2007)
    - 2003 Masos d en Cubells receives 94 pts
    - 2003 Mas de Masos receives 92 pts
    - 2002 Mas de Masos receives 90 pts

  • The 2003 Capafons-Ossó Montsant Vessants scored an impressive 87 points when it was rated in Wine Spectator.

  • On onsimports.com, a Website devoted to Spanish wine, both the Capafons-Ossó Maria Esplanes and Capafons-Ossó Masos d’en Cueblls were noted as particularly impressive wines from the Priorat region of Spain. (2006)
