Accolades

Oberon Wines are highly lauded as some of the best out of Napa Valley, specifically for their excellent reflection of the incredible microclimates of the region at a price that is hard to beat.

  • Oberon got a great mention in a recent article on Napa Valley values from the San Diego Union-Tribune.  Michele Parenti attended the Napa Valley Vintners tasting in San Diego which featured over 100 wineries.  In her tasting round-up, she declared Oberon the “best all-around value portfolio.”(May 6, 2010)
  • Over 200 restaurants around the country—all ranked among Zagat Survey’s most popular restaurants—participated in Wine & Spirits 21st Annual Restaurant Poll. Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon was ranked #11 out of the 25 most popular Cabernet Sauvignons. (April, 2010)
  • In his blog post for the New York Times about outstanding American wine values, Eric Asimov recommended the 2006 Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon!  Link and full article below. (May 20, 2009)

  • Decanter "Highly Recommends" the 2005 Oberon Hillside Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, "Wonderful, exotic, brooding blackberry and liquorice nose. Full and lush, wonderful texture and balance. Silky and creamy, complex and very polished." (January 2009)
  • Wine Spectator reviews the 2006 Oberon Sauvignon Blanc (89 pts) and calls it a Smart Buy -- "Guava, papaya, peach and nectarine flavors are rich and fleshy, with fragrant floral notes. There’s juicy, refreshing acidity and a lingering finish. Drink now. – M.W." (July 31, 2008)
  • Wine Spectator reviews the 2005 Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (85 pts) - "Tightly wound, with a mix of herb, sage, tea and dried currant flavors that are intense and focused, ending with a green wood flavor that may work its way into the wine." - J.L. (July 31, 2008)
  • Wine Spectator Insider reviews the 2005 Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Hillside Reserve (91 pts) -- "Dark and intense, deeply concentrated and tightly focused, showing a complex mix of dried currant, wild berry, savory herb and spice notes, with a dash of cedary, smoky, toasty oak. Firmly tannic. Drink now through 2015.—J.L." (April 23, 2008)

  • Wine & Spirits 19th Annual Restaurant Poll, in which 309 restaurants around the U.S. participated, ranked Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon #23 out of 33 wines! (April 2008)

  • Wine View Online gave the Oberon 2001 Napa Valley Merlot 90 points and enthused, “A few years back, the default assumption among consumers was that Merlot is delicious, but in the post Sideways era, I'm sometimes asked whether any Merlot is worth drinking. The answer is yes, and here's a particularly nice case in point. The fruit shows very nice notes of black plums and ripe berries, with good concentration and depth of flavor but no harshness of drying in the finish. Delicious, and a deal." (March 2006)

  • The Oberon 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was given two stars by the San Francisco Chronicle.  The newspaper described the wine as, “Nicely concentrated for its price, this wine offers a palate of juicy black cherry, plum and dark chocolate. Toast and vanilla are minor players in this easy-to-drink, medium-full-bodied Cabernet." (March 2006)

  • Oberon's 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon was a Silver Medal Winner at the 2006 Cincinnati International Wine Tasting. (2006)
  • Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine also appreciated the 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, awarding it 86 points and noting, “It is not especially big and it is not especially flashy, but this well-balanced, medium-bodied offering is very much to the varietal point in terms of its curranty fruit, and it comes with a nice dose of oaky richness. Its tannins are down, but it does not lapse into softness, and it is one to tag for current drinking while its more potent cousins slowly age.” (December 2005)

  • Tampa’s Weekly Planet awarded the Oberon 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon four stars. (November 2005)
