Accolades
- 2006 Palacios Remondo Plácet is recommended in the September issue of Food & Wine. Plácet is recommended as a good match for Tortilla Española in the feature, “A Spanish Road Trip Starring Mario & Gwyneth,” about Batali and Paltrow’s culinary trip through Spain. The 2006 Plácet also received the “Staff Favorite” designation in the magazine’s wine index. (September 2008)
- Wine Spectator rates the 2006 Bodegas Palacios Remondo Rioja -La Vendimia (84 Pts) --
Black cherry, licorice and cola flavors mingle in this straightforward red, which has modest tannins and a smoky finish. Drink now. –T.M. (May 15, 2008)
- Wine Advocate reviews Vall Llach in the 2008 Spain Report:
-2004 Palacios Remondo La Montesa (90 pts) The 2004 La Montesa is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 40% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo, and 5% Graciano. It was aged for 12 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak and bottled unfiltered. Medium crimson-colored, it offers an expressive bouquet of cedar, pencil lead, black raspberry, and blackberry. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals a supple texture, plenty of spicy dark fruits, good complexity, and an elegant personality. It has a lengthy finish for its modest price. Drink this outstanding value now and over the next 8 years.
-2006 Palacios Remondo Placet (86 pts) The 2006 Placet, made from 100% Viura, was aged on its lees for 9 months. It is light gold-colored with a slightly muted nose of mineral, flowers (magnolia and jasmine), pear, and melon. This is followed by a medium-bodied wine with good acidity, tropical flavors, and a smooth texture. It could use more concentration but will make for pleasant drinking over the next 1-2 years.
-2005 Palacios Remondo Propriedad (91 pts) The 2005 Propriedad is composed of 60% Garnacha and 40% Tempranillo aged for 14 months in mostly French oak and was bottled unfiltered. Dark ruby-colored, it presents an enticing perfume of smoke, pencil lead, spice box, flowers, black cherry, and blackberry. Medium to full-bodied, the wine delivers plenty of ripe fruit, excellent balance, and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. However, this elegant wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 8-10 years. (March 2008)
- San Francisco Chronicle gave the 2005 Placet THREE Stars, "Oak fermentation and seven months aging on the lees contribute to this wine's rich, full mouthfeel, complexity and slightly higher price. Peach, apricot and melon with hint of lemon curd combine with sweet oak spice in the wine, which will more favorably pair with foods having some weight and richness... The fruitier, more expensive 2006 vintage ($30) is an upcoming release." 10/2007
- José Peñin gave the 2005 Plácet 92 points in the January 2007 GUIA PEÑIN. He stated, "Bright straw-coloured. Aroma with hints
of lavender, hay, mint. Palate rich in fresh,
fruity notes and with a hardly noticeable fine
smoked finish, fresh herbs, excellent varietal
expression." 1/2007
- José Peñin gave the 2004 Propiedad 92 points in the January 2007 GUIA PEÑIN, saying, "Slightly intense cherry with a garnet edge.
Fine aroma, with toasted hints of oak and
spiced fruits, fresh fruit, a nicely mixed blend.
Full palate, flavourful, good fruity and varietal
expression with the good balance of fine oak." 1/2007
- José Peñin gave the 2004 La Montesa 90 points in the January 2007 GUIA PEÑIN. "Rich cherry. Aroma with creamy notes of
toasted oak (cocoa, coffee). Slightly meaty
palate, with good fruity and varietal
expression, fresh fruit tannins and smoked
oak finish." 1/2007
- Stephen Tanzer gives the 2004 La Montesa and the 2004 Propiedad both 90+ points in the Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Sept/Oct 2006
